Savio Track Team Takes on State Finals with True Grit and Determination

Here are the results of the TAPPS State Track Finals in Waco May 2-3:

  • Sean Casey finished 4th in the discus with a throw of 142'8"
  • Alexis Phillips finished 5th in the 200M
  • The girls 4x200m relay was unfortunately disqualified, because the 4th leg fell about a foot from the finish line, and the baton fell across the finish line without the athlete, which is against the rules. These young ladies ran the best race of the season, however, and if they had finished they would have recorded one the state's fastest times. (They were in 3rd place!!!)
  • The girls 4x400m relay finished 4th with a time of 4:12.91 which is a school record!!

Special note from Coach Brantley:

“I am so proud of the Savio track team and the way they competed at the state meet which encourages me and really makes me look forward to next year. To complete this amazing team we will need more participation from the student body in the way of girls and boys high jumpers, long & triple jumpers, shot put & discus throwers, pole vaulters, distance runners, and managers. I believe that Savio has untapped talent, and I am asking for those that would like to take on this challenge to please contact me, Coach Brantley at (512) 287-9495. We are just a few athletes away from being a really outstanding track team.”

Thank you to all that have supported this small but mighty Savio track team this season!
