Drill Team
Purpose
The purpose of the Drill Team organization is to encourage quality performance, high academic standards, loyal school spirit, and high personal values among its members. Through the development of dance technique, leadership, cooperation, self-discipline, and sportsmanship from each individual member, the Savio Drill Team Dancers will fulfill their purpose for the benefit of St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School and the Catholic school community.
Rules and Regulations
As a member of the Savio Drill Team, you must abide by all of the rules and regulations beginning on the date you successfully pass the audition. Membership on the team does not automatically qualify the member to dance with the team in every performance. Each girl will audition for every team performance. To qualify to dance with the team, each member must have mastered the choreography and perform it with nearly perfect dance technique.
Standards
As a member of the Savio Drill Team, each dancer must abide by a certain set of rules and regulations. This high code of conduct includes academic achievement as well as appropriate behavior in and out of Drill Team.
Membership
Any student may request a try-out application from the Director during the announced sign-up period. An information session will be held a few weeks prior to auditions. Students who are interested must turn in their application by the deadline to secure a place for the try-out process. Auditions shall be held during the Spring semester of the school year for current students and the last week of May or the first week of June for incoming freshman.
There are three types of members on the Drill Team. The Newbie Membership is a probationary member. A Dancer in Training is a dancer who has made the team but may not be performing with the team right away. A Performance Dancer is a full-fledged member who is expected to be dancing in all pep rallies, football games, and tryout for the competition team.
Length of Membership
A member of the performance dance team may remain a member until they graduate if all the rules and regulations are met. Regardless of classification, once a student chooses to drop off the team, it will be up to the directors' and administrators' discretion whether she will be allowed back on the team. A dancer in training will audition according to the rules above. Once a performer in training becomes a performance member, they will remain a member until they graduate if all rules and regulations are met, or unless they choose to leave the team.
Auditions
Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior students may audition for the team in the Spring. Auditions include jazz/pom & kick, as well as turn, leap, kick, and split technique. The students will be selected by a panel of judges. Once selected, the students will be placed on a probationary Newbie contract for the remainder of the Spring semester and will officially step on the team after the last bell rings on the last day of school, in accordance with their membership level (dancer vs. Dancer in training).

Drill Team Director
Mrs. Stephanie Boss brings extensive experience in dance and coaching and is eager to share her passion and expertise with our students. In addition to serving as the Drill Team Director at Savio, she also works in the Advancement Office, supporting student life through events such as Homecoming and Prom. She is the mom of four daughters and is very passionate about mentoring young women and helping them grow in confidence, leadership, and teamwork.
Dance has been a lifelong love of hers, and she was a member of her high school drill team, continued dancing in college, and later competed in ballroom dance, specializing in salsa and swing. She is committed to creating a positive and encouraging environment where students can thrive both on and off the field. Most importantly, she values the role that extracurricular activities play in a student’s overall development and hopes to inspire each dancer to grow not only in skill but also in character and confidence.

Mrs. Kate Bierschenk brings a lifelong passion for dance and education to her role as Savio’s assistant Drill Team Director. She began dancing at the age of three, taking ballet graduating to en pointe, lyrical, and jazz, building a strong technical foundation and a deep love for the art. As a student at Round Rock High School, Kate was a proud member of the Round Rock Dragonettes and earned 2nd place in the Crowdpleasers State Solo competition her senior year. Kate continued to pursue her passion for dance while attending Texas State University, where she remained involved in dance classes. In addition to her dance background, Kate is a certified history teacher for grades 8-12 in the state of Texas, is the proud mother of four children, and is devoted to her husband, Eric. Her coaching philosophy centers on positivity, growth, and cooperative learning, fostering an environment where each team member feels supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.
