Father Tom Reitmeyer, JCL, former Pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, has accepted a new role with the Diocese of Austin - Vicar General.

While this is not a comprehensive list, here is an example of what Father Tom will be doing for our Bishop:

Diocesan Vicar General roles:
The roles of a diocesan vicar general are multifaceted and crucial for the effective governance of a diocese. Here are some of the key responsibilities:
Administrative Authority: The vicar general exercises the bishop's ordinary executive power over the entire diocese, acting as the bishop's agent in administration. 

Bishop's Deputy: The vicar general serves as the bishop's deputy, assisting him in the governance of the diocese. 

Representation: The vicar general represents the diocese on behalf of the bishop to various internal and external public events. 

Decision-Making: The vicar general advises the bishop on a wide variety of issues and participates in decisions regarding the assignment of priests. 

Curia Coordination: The vicar general coordinates the exercise of administrative responsibilities and assists the bishop in coordinating the activity of the members of the curia. 

Curia Leadership: The vicar general leads the curia, aligning with the bishop's vision and addressing the needs of parishes. 

Curia Coordination: The vicar general coordinates the work of diocese agencies and ensures that all members of the curia fulfill their duties. 
 

These roles are essential for ensuring that the diocese operates smoothly and effectively, with the bishop's guidance and support. The vicar general's expertise in canon law and theology, along with their pastoral experience, makes them a vital part of the diocesan leadership.
