TAPPS Academic & Speech Teams Place 2nd at State

Savio Receives 2nd place Overall at 6A TAPPS Academic State Championship Meet

In our first year of competing as a 6A school, St Dominic Savio captured 2nd place overall in the TAPPS Academic State Championship.  Savio won a total of 21 medals across 11 different events, with 12 different Savio students earning an award. Students earned school points by placing in the top 8 of an event.  There are no grade divisions and all 6A schools in the state can send 3 entries per event.  In addition to our overall 2nd place, Savio also won the award for earning the most Academic event points.

Number Sense: Jonathan Shoemaker – 1st, Jessica Shoemaker – 5th, Ben Hoang – 6th

Calculator: Jonathan Shoemaker – 1st, Ben Hoang – 4th, Jessica Shoemaker – 5th

Advanced Math: Jonathan Shoemaker – 1st, Matthew Meskill – 5th

TAPPS Math: Jessica Shoemaker – 1st, Johnny Miri – 8th

Spanish: Diego Yanez – 2nd, Isabella Serrano-Ayala – 7th

Prose Interpretation: Caitlin McCauslin – 3rd

Ready Writing:  Katie Miri – 5th, Johnny Miri – 8th

Science: Jonathan Shoemaker – 5th

Social Studies: Alexander Lacayo – 6th(t), Johnny Miri – 6th(t)

Spelling: Katie Miri – 6th

Poetry:  Lily Hallum and Micah Santos – Semifinalists

Original Oratory: Caitlin McCauslin – Semifinalist

Jonathan Shoemaker was awarded a plaque for being the top overall individual scorer in the tournament.
