Visual Arts

The Art Department at St. Dominic Savio explores both two and three dimensional media as well as photography. The multiple course offerings expose students to art theory, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, photography, photo editing software and art history.  In addition, Art for Water allows students to work with elementary students as well as create their own work –all culminating in a show and sale of work to raise money to build water wells in Burundi Africa.  Visual Art students participate in multiple national art competitions during the year and student work is displayed in the halls throughout the building.  There is an annual Spring Art show to celebrate the accomplishments of all students participating in the visual arts program.

Music

St. Dominic Savio’s Music program consists of an exciting mixture of course offerings and after school clubs. Although many students arrive at Savio with musical experience, the program accommodates students who have little to no exposure and builds musical skill, as well as knowledge of music history and theory.  Students have the opportunity to participate in multiple instrumental and vocal ensembles that compete and perform throughout the school year.  Music is everywhere at Savio – from the Faith Choir at weekly school masses to the pep band at football games. Fall, Christmas, and Spring concerts bring the entire Savio Community together to celebrate the students’ accomplishments.  All students can find their niche in either the instrumental, string, or choral ensembles.

Theater

Each year, St. Dominic Savio is proud to present two major theatrical productions. In the fall, students in the Drama Club participate in a One Act Play which is performed for the school community then entered into the TAPPS One Act Play competition. In the spring, all students are invited to audition for the annual Spring Musical.  Actors, singers, dancers, musicians and technical crew all come together to dazzle the entire Austin community with a full length piece of musical theater. Past shows have included, The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka, Seussical, Bye Bye Birdie and Beauty and the Beast .
