St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School, founded by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin, opened its doors in the fall of 2009 with 86 students in the 9th and 10th grades. In one year, St. Dominic Savio more than doubled in enrollment and started the 2010-2011 school year with 180 students in grades 9-11. Savio has much to be thankful for and it is our duty as Servant Leaders to give back to students.
Why Savio? We believe the following are reasons that St. Dominic Savio’s reputation has taken off so quickly and continues to grow.
Faith Formation
While St. Dominic Savio’s immediate goal is to prepare students for college acceptance and academic success, our ultimate goal is to graduate young men and women who are grounded in their faith. By doing this, we ensure that we are graduating students who are caring, conscientious, moral, servant leaders to the Catholic community and world.
Students are required to take a Theology class each year and the curriculum is set by the Diocese of Austin. Other faith forming activities include Mass (weekly Mass is required on Wednesday and voluntary Mass is offered on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings before school), class retreats, and other service opportunities through Savio clubs (40 hours of service is required for graduation).
Our motto is Forming Servant Leaders in the Image of Christ.
Academic Excellence
We have high expectations for our students. Whether a student is near the top of the class or a student who may require more structure and guidance, each student is expected to excel to the best of their ability. Our teachers work closely (10:1 student to faculty ratio) with students and parents to ensure that all students are working to their potential.
Expectations are just as high for our faculty. To ensure that we are providing the students with the best, our faculty has to be of the highest caliber with a thirst for continuing their own education.
Diversity
St. Dominic Savio strives to be an INCLUSIVE environment. Savio’s student body represents many different ethnic, geographic, and economic backgrounds. Our students have come together to learn with and from each other in a caring and nurturing academic and faith filled environment.
Opportunity
It is rare that a student has the opportunity to help build the foundation for a new high school. At St. Dominic Savio our students have that opportunity each and every day. Each of our students is a pioneer. They are forming the traditions that will carry on for generations to come. No one said it would be easy, but if it were easy, everyone would do it. Fortunately for us, we have a wonderful group of students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration who are working hard to help us with this amazing opportunity.
On a daily basis, students may participate in various extra-curricular activities (including Student Senate, Model Court, Pro Life Club, Robotics Club, National Honor Society, etc.), Fine Arts (including band, orchestra, choir, jazz band, liturgical choir, theater arts), and athletics (including volleyball, cross country, football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and track & field). Another great opportunity is organizing an activity that does not yet exist at Savio.
