Graduation Requirements

St. Dominic Savio has only one course of study–college preparatory.  In order to provide a quality educational experience, SDS has developed three college preparatory pathways–STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), Honors, and Accelerated.  These pathways differ in the courses offered, and the speed and depth to which the material is covered.  The different pathways allow us to tailor our curriculum to the abilities and interests of our students.

Students are placed in pathways based on the composite score of their placement test and his/her academic transcript.  However, we also consider teacher recommendations and information gained from student interviews.  By placing students in an appropriate pathway, students in all pathways are able to develop, to the best of their ability, the gifts God has given to them.  All students are eligible for academic awards, and students throughout each pathway are eligible for membership in the National Honor Society.

All students need 32 credits to graduate from St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School.  Listed below are requirements for graduation:

Theology-4 credits                                  Physical Education-1.5 credits

English-4 credits                                     Technology Applications-1 credit

Math-4 credits                                         Fine Arts-1 credit

Science-4 credits                                     Speech-(1/2 credit)

Social Studies-3.5 credits                        Foreign Language-3 credits

Economics-(1/2 credit)                            Health Education-(1/2 credit)

Elective Credits-4.5 credits

St. Dominic Savio will offer Advanced Placement courses in addition to other electives beginning with the 2010/2011 school year.  As a prerequisite to Advanced Placement courses, students must take an honors level course.  For example, a student hoping to take AP English as a senior would need a good grade in (H) English III as a junior.  More details regarding specific requirements are forthcoming.

The three college preparatory pathways are suggested courses of study for students in that pathway.  They are intended as frameworks that will keep students on the path to graduation.
