“Savio girls suffer a heart breaker to the Austin Royals Homeschool team. It was a back and forth game all night but the Royals hung on to win, 48-43 to keep their undefeated season alive. Savio was led by Abigail Moses’ 13 points. Please come out Friday night to support the Eagles on Senior night.” – Coach Bailey

On January 28, 2012, 4 Savio students participated in the Texas Private School Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) All-State Concert.  This concert consisted of All-State Band, Orchestra, Choir, and Jazz Band students.  This group was selected from students who submitted CD recordings of specific music cuts.  These CD’s were then ranked by an expert panel of judges.  The top students were selected to be a part of this prestigious ensemble and traveled to San Marcos for 2 full days of intense rehearsals leading up to the amazing concert on Saturday evening.  The students representing Savio were David Bologna, Christina Fair, Adrian Higgason and Gabi Camacho.  It is fantastic to see the amazing talent we have here at Savio!  Congratulations!

“The JV boys edged out Waldorf in a 41-40 non-district victory and improved the season record to 14-3 on Monday night. Dominic Kress led all scores with 17 points and hit the go ahead 3 pointer in the final minute of the game. Kevin Owens snagged 8 rebounds in what was one of our better rebounding nights as a team. Waldorf put the pressure on us from the opening tip but we persevered as a team to take command in the 2nd half. This was a great victory for the boys to respond positively and succeed after a sub-par first half of play. The JV will be back in action this Friday night at The Nest to take on St. Joseph’s in a district match-up. ” – Coach Alvarez

All Savio basketball teams tasted victory Friday night competing against the Waco Texas Christian Stars as they were cheered on by an excited Nest full of Eagle fans.

JV Boys: “The JV boys stay perfect in district play with a 55-14 victory over Waco Texas Christian. Dominic Kress led the scoring with 15 points and the team shot an outstanding 58%. The team really committed themselves to rebounding and executing the offense. This was really a team win in every phase of the game and we look to carry the momentum into Monday as the JV will have a rematch with Waldorf on Monday. Savio bested Waldorf in a 2 quarter preseason game with a 19 to 13 score.” – Coach Alvarez

Varsity Girls: “Savio girls had a decisive win over Texas Christian Academy Friday night, 65-24. All players scored in the contest and were led by Jenna Minor’s 20 points. The Eagles host the Austin Royals home school team on Tuesday @ 6:00″ – Coach Bailey

Varsity Boys: “The St. Dominic Savio Eagles have taken one more giant step toward the state playoffs and their moment in destiny as they improved their record to 18-5, 9-0 in conference play and beat the defending state-finalist Waco Texas Christian Stars in a hard-fought last-second battle to take over undisputed first place with three games to go.  The Eagles squeezed out a 51-49 win behind Daniel Miksch and Cole Korte as they combined for 28 points.  John Kistler also had a solid performance and Chaz Anthony came off the bench to provide firepower and great defense in the 2nd half.  The Eagles will host St. Joseph next Friday.  Special thanks go out to all the Savio supporters for their loud and inspired efforts to ‘rock the nest’…it made a huge difference as the game rolled to its exciting ending.  Keep it up!” – Coach Jernberg

Come fill The Nest tonight to cheer on our Boys and Girls basketball teams as they play decision making district games against Waco Texas Christian.

Boys JV @ 5:15, Girls Varsity @ 6:30, Boys Varsity @ 8:00

“This is just a “shout-out” to everyone to remind you of how important this game Friday night is!  We currently control our own destiny–we are 18-5 for the year, 8-0 in conference play, ranked 12th in the state polls but MUST elimate Waco this Friday night from the district chase!  They are a strong squad–state finalists in 2011–and we were fortunate to beat them in overtime in Waco.  I would like to dub this night a “jam-the-gym” occasion, a golden opportunity to really show the “Savio spirit” and help the Savio Eagles take one more step closer to history!” – Coach Jernberg

It was Senior Night on the home field Tuesday evening as the Lady Eagles soccer team played Brentwood Christian despite the rainy weather, coming out victorious with a 5-0 win.

“The Lady Eagles slipped and slid their way to another victory against Austin’s Brentwood Christian. At the half, Senior Bailey Hallberg had two goals, one straight shot and another from a corner kick. During half time, the team celebrated Senior Night by honoring seniors, Christina Blackburn, Bailey Hallberg, Susan Perkins, and Myndi Riddle. Each girl was given an action picture of themself, a flower, and a gift card as a gift of appreciation of what they have done for the team. Second half, Sophomore Marissa Loredo put one in the net by following up on  a shot made by Hallberg. Hallberg ended the second half by adding another two goals to the Savio team. The Lady’s outplayed Brentwood and showed the spectators that mud won’t stop them from playing. It was a great game and a wonderful way to end district play. Playoffs, here we come!!” – Coach White

“District champion Regents (8-0 district, 11-1 overall) eked out a narrow 1-0 victory over the Savio boys soccer team Wednesday in the final district game of the year.   Savio had the first good scoring opportunity of the day with a Ryan Johnson corner kick finding Matthew French running into the box but his header went over the crossbar.  Midway through the first half Regents’ speed allowed them to capitalize on a Savio  defensive error and dribble in unopposed on goalie Luke Rivas for the only score of the day.  Despite physical play from Regents, and their advantage in speed and experience, Savio was able to keep up, fighting hard.  Savio’s best scoring opportunity came in the 2nd half when Ryan Johnson passed to Josh Baehl who beat Regents’ keeper with a shot as Baehl was swarmed by multiple defenders, but a Regents defender cleared the ball just before it rolled over the goal line.  Continuing to press Regents, with only a few minutes remaining Ryan Johnson nearly converted,  but time expired before Savio could find the equalizer.  Austin McCourt led Savio with 5 shots.  Luke Rivas made 16 saves in goal.

With a third place finish in district, Savio will go on to the TAPPS 3A area playoffs, in only its second year of Varsity soccer. Congratulations to  coach Barrera and the whole team!” -  Parent volunteer,  Steve French

The Lady Eagles and Boys JV and Varsity teams traveled to Brentwood Christian Tuesday night with both boys teams winning their games.  The Lady Eagles lost 42-53.

JV Boys: “The JV boys improve to an 11-3 record on the season. We outlasted Brentwood Christian with a score of 42-32. It was a hard fought game and Brentwood was a very physical team. Miguel Rodriguez and Schyler Hallberg led scores with 9 points each. The JV is back in action at The Nest this Friday against Waco Texas Christian.” – Paul Alvarez

Varsity Boys: “St. Dominic’s district-leading Eagles had to fight hard to off-set a flurry of free throws by the Brentwood Bears as they beat Brentwood 61-44 at their house.  Savio, playing without the services of two of their five regular starters, depended on a number of reserves to step up and play big.  Cole Korte and Quinn Robichaux led the Eagles in scoring, but Matt Russell, Josh Williams and Daniel Minor had strong reserve performances to keep their squad undefeated.  St. Dominic, which moved up to a #12 ranking in the state polls, stands 17-5, 8-0 in conference play and awaits a showdown with Waco Texas Christian this Friday night for what could be an outright district lead going into the last  full week of play.  Savio squeezed out an overtime victory in their first meeting in Waco and the Stars  will be seeking revenge.  This will be a great “jam-the-gym” night for Savio fans and we hope to see the house full and rocking.  Please plan to “come early, stay late and be LOUD”! – Coach Jernberg

On Saturday night, February 4th, from 8:00-11:00pm, Savio will have a “Sadie Hawkins” dance in our gym. This dance is informal with the boys encouraged to wear jeans, boots, overalls, plaid shirts or flannel, etc. Ladies may wear jeans, boots, overalls, denim skirts (of dress-code length), blouses, or “Daisy May” dresses (again, dress code appropriate).

In the original “Sadie Hawkins” tradition, roles are reversed and the ladies invite the gentlemen. This is great or the students are invited to come individually and join the fun! Tickets for the event will go on sale on Monday, Jan 30th and be sold throughout the week at lunch in the commons area. Pre-sale tickets are $5 for an individual or $8 for a couple. ALL tickets sold at the door will be $10 each.

There will also be a concession selling drinks at the dance, but no food will be sold.

Please direct any questions to  jgrady@saviochs.org.

Yee-haw! Join us for the fun!
